Thornes the Solicitors appoint new lawyer and expand their family department

Thornes recently welcomed the arrival of new lawyer, Sonali Obhrai, to extend and enhance their family department.

According to Bruce Gaudion, Partner and Head of the Family team

“Sonali is a welcome addition to our already experienced, professional and empathetic team. We at Thornes are proud of our commitment to client care and believe this to be reflected in the ever increasing number of satisfied clients and subsequent need to expand our team of family law advisers, even in the current economic climate.”

Sonali successfully completed a degree in Law and French in 2001 and completed her Legal Practice Course the following year, at De Montfort University, where she attained a distinction.

She brings with her a wide experience of family law work accumulated during the last five years with respected firms across the region and has a broad wealth of experience in all areas of family work, including disputes relating to children, Injunction proceedings as well as divorces and financial settlements.

As someone who grew up in the Wolverhampton area Sonali comments

“I’m proud to return to the commonality where I was raised and to serve the community that afforded me the support network and opportunities enabling me to take on my role with Thornes ”.

Tracy Davis, Head of Client Services explains that

“Sonali’s interests aren’t limited to the work place and her love of reading, listening to music and socialising with family and friends enable her to communicate with clients intelligently and sympathetically, all the more important for clients requiring clarity and understanding in what are often very distressing times in their lives”.

Brave Thornes team scale the walls of Dudley Castle for Charity

Despite the cold, wet weather three colleagues, Bruce Gaudion, Kelly Robinson and Aimee Taylor from Thornes the Solicitors recently joined nearly 600 people in abseiling down the walls of Dudley castle to raise funds for The Stroke Association.

Bruce Gaudion, Partner and head of the family department at Thornes opines that

“Although most of us are aware of the basic symptoms of a stroke, few of us realise how wide spread they are, affecting around 150,000 per year; people of all ages, not just those in their latter years. I have witnessed some of the symptoms and recognise the absolute importance of preventing strokes where possible and providing the intensive after care required for those unfortunate enough to suffer them. As such I was very happy to take up the opportunity, together with Kelly and Aimee to assist in raising funds for such a good cause, where prevention and support are given absolute priority”.

Kelly Robinson, legal secretary comments

“Whilst I was petrified on the day the experience of abseiling by floodlight was thrilling and knowing that all monies we were able to raise were going to such a worthwhile charity made the event all the more worthwhile".

Aimee Taylor, also a legal secretary says

“This was my second charity event with the firm and I hope to take part in many more in the future. I am glad that the firm I have chosen to work for remains so committed to such good causes”.

Thornes Solicitors raise £1k for charity

Thornes Solicitors of Lich Gates Wolverhampton took part in the recent Wolverhampton Half Marathon and raised £1,000 for a local school.

Two Thornes teams took part in the relay event, both finishing in 2 hours and 6 minutes - but Senior Partner, Gerald Thorne, outshone them all by completing the 15 kilometre cycle ride in 57 minutes, despite having been knocked off his bike whilst negotiating a particularly tricky roundabout / island.

Thanks to Thornes clients, friends and business acquaintances, a total of £1,000 was raised to help Penn Hall School for pupils with physical and sensory needs. The school is particularly close to the heart of Partner and Head of client services, Tracy Davis, whose eight year old son benefits from the high quality support and tutelage provided there.

I’m delighted to have taken part in the Wolverhampton Half Marathon,” says Tracy.

After more than 130 years offering legal services to the people of Wolverhampton and the surrounding areas, Thornes Solicitors recognises the importance of the local community. We are committed to fulfilling our corporate responsibility by giving something back.

The money raised will go towards purchasing access technology equipment for use in two new classrooms being built at the school which will benefit all of Penn Hall’s pupils to develop and prepare for life after school.

Thornes would like to thank the following supporters of this event:-
